Born in Boligee, Alabama, Kate Harrison Friend (b. ca. 1856-1949) was the daughter of Nathaniel Friend (ca. 1835- ca.1885) and Araminta Harrison (b. ca. 1840). After the death of her father around 1885, Friend moved with her mother to Waco, Texas, where they ran a private school. A descendant of Pocahontas on her father’s side, and President William Henry Harrison on her mother’s, Friend was an active member of her community, involved in women’s clubs and humanitarian projects.
